Steam Reaches 6,000 Games

Steam Reaches 6,000 Games

Steam is absolutely blowing up as the largest digital distribution platform in the world. There are now more than 6,000 games on Steam, which is an impressive number, but it’s even more impressive when you consider how many games Steam had just a year ago: 3,700. That’s 2,300 games uploaded to Steam in only one year, over half of its entire library!

When you compare this to other platforms, Steam absolutely dwarfs them. Origin, EA’s brand specific store, hosts just over 500 games. Good Old Games or GOG, has 1,200. Even services like the PlayStation Network and Xbox Marketplace do not come close to Steam’ s game total.

Steam currently has more than 125 million users, and has gained 25 million users in just the last six months. This is significant considering the PS4 has only sold about 20 million consoles and the Xbox One has only sold about 10 million. Technically, this means that there are more PC gamers out there than there are console gamers. However, because PC gaming does give you such a wide variety of games at 6000 just on Steam, it’s harder to snag any particular fanbase with a single release.

Still, this says a lot for PC gaming and its strength in the market. What do you think? Are you a PC gamer? What Steam games do you own? Let us know in the comments.
