1 Billion People Used Facebook on Monday

This is a very strange but very poignant story. The earth holds about seven billion people. On Monday, one billion people were using Facebook (as tracked by logins). This means a full seventh of the world’s population was on the social networking site, making it one of the most prolific social platforms ever created. It won’t be long until everyone is connected to everyone via Facebook and we all live in a much smaller, more connected global community.

Mark Zuckerberg was incredibly proud of this milestone, saying:

“Our community stands for giving every person a voice, for promoting understanding, and for including everyone in the opportunities of our modern world,” he said. “A more open and connected world is a better world. It brings stronger relationships with those you love, a stronger economy with more opportunities, and a stronger society that reflects all of our values.”

I have to wonder how many of those people were simply logging on to play Candy Crush Saga or Farmville ?
