PlayStation VR Could Cost as Much as a Console

PlayStation VR Could Cost as Much as a Console

If you’re hoping to get in on this virtual reality trend, you may have to be willing to sacrifice console ownership for it. According to Andrew House, Chief Executive Officer over at Sony, the PlayStation 4’s PlayStation VR peripheral is going to cost as much as a console. “PlayStation VR” is the official moniker for what was known as Project Morpheus, if you haven’t been keeping up.

What console, however, is unknown. A Wii U comes in at the low end at $299.99, after all, and the Xbox One with Kinect is representing the other end of the scale at $499.99. We could be looking at the PlayStation VR costing as much as a PlayStation 4, about $400.

On the plus side, 10 PlayStation VR games were playable on PlayStation 4 for Tokyo Game Show attendees, with over 10 supposedly available when the headset launches in 2016. With enough support, a $200-400 peripheral could find an audience, especially since the Oculus Rift Development Kit 2 is $350 at the moment.
