Star Fox Zero Running at 120 FPS

Star Fox Zero Running at 120 FPS

At the beginning of the year there were two huge games that everyone just knew were going to save the Wii U: a new Zelda and a new Star Fox . Well we heard pretty early on that we’d have to wait until next year for the release of Zelda Wii U (or is that Zelda NX ?), but Star Fox Zero was locked in for a holiday 2015 release. When news surfaced that it too would be delayed until next year, many people were ready to stick a fork in Nintendo.

Melodrama aside, Star Fox Zero seems to be shaping up really nicely. In a recent interview with GameSpot, Platinum Games’ Yusuke Hashimoto mentioned that they had the game running at 60 FPS on the screen as well as through the gamepad. “We’ve got them both moving at 60 fps, which is big for a lot of people, I think,” he said, “but I think that it’s kind of a milestone in gaming, in a way. It’s not something that we have done ourselves before at Platinum, and it’s just not even something that has been done in gaming before. So it’s a lot of new challenges.”

I myself am weary of such a large emphasis on the gamepad. I like to watch the action play out on the big screen. The thought of being asked to spend the entire campaign waving and staring at the gamepad doesn’t suggest “innovation,” it screams “distraction.” Nintendo always pulls off the seemingly impossible, though, and they’re determined to give Star Fox a platinum polish.
