19th Century “Google” Promotes Assassin’s Creed Syndicate

19th Century “Google” Promotes Assassin’s Creed Syndicate

I just don’t know what to think of Ubisoft anymore; it’s not the most consistent when it comes to delivering polished content. Assassin’s Creed Unity was a disappointment to most fans, and the game suffered from some serious performance issues on the PS4.  One thing I’ll give Ubisoft, though: it knows how to promote its games in interesting ways.

This time, Ubisoft has created a “ The XIXth Century Search Engine ” to promote Assassin’s Creed Syndicate . Cleverly styled as an actual engine with steam hissing and gears turning in the background, queries will return some interesting bits of ‘news’ that immerse gamers in the fictional-historical 19th Century London in which the game takes place. There are specific stories that will allude to events that unfold throughout the game as well as more general results that will give you a sense of what it was like to live in a turbulent, industrial, gang-occupied London. A lot of the results are interesting and factual; some are just interesting. A search for “secret society” yielded a petition to join a local lodge of Free Masons, and a certain four letter word will pull up an ad for “Nightmen & Sons,” a human waste management company.

It’s a lot of fluff, but Ubisoft has always insisted that the best way to enjoy an Assassin’s Creed game is to familiarize yourself with their historical and religious settings, and this is a novel and intuitive tool for doing just that. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is set to release on October 23.
