2K Games announced today that the latest game in its NBA franchise, NBA 2K16 , sold over 4 million copies within the first week of release. Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations at 2K Jason Argent said that, “ NBA 2K fans around the world are buying this title faster and in greater numbers than ever before.” No kidding, Jason.
The game has received unanimously favorable reviews and is sure to stay at the top of the charts for a while. With the most realistic player models the series has ever seen, a career mode directed by Spike Lee, and the foundation of solid gameplay mechanics upon which 2K has built its empire, there’s just too much here to walk away from. A steep learning curve and some whacky glitches are overlooked for gobs of incredible content. In addition to the stellar sales, 2K stated that the game has broken a few other records, doubling the number of digital downloads compared to last year’s iteration, and more than tripling the number of games played online within this same span of time.
