Fan-made amiibo Generates Thousands for Charity

A custom-made amiibo has gone up for auction on eBay. Collectors are no doubt accustomed by now to seeing highly desirable amiibo for sale at inflated prices, but this particular figurine is unique. The custom Mii amiibo has been painted to resemble the late Satoru Iwata, and the money raised by its sale is to be donated to charity.

The listing states the following: “GandaKris has created what we believe to be the most touching, and inspirational custom amiibo ever created. In Iwata-san’s memory we will be donating 100% of the proceeds directly to Child’s Play, a non-profit charity dedicated to providing children in hospitals with toys and videos games.”

The amiibo charmingly captures the playful countenance of a man that was reportedly always smiling; a man who had the heart of a gamer. Iwata’s legacy of kindness and his desire to bring gamers together live on through this creative gesture and as of now the amiibo has raised $5,000 for Child’s Play.
