You can Get Payday 2 Drills as Random Drops

You can Get Payday 2 Drills as Random Drops

Overkill Software nearly performed a fatality on itself last week when it introduced microtransactions into Payday 2 after promising it wouldn’t add them to its games. Safes would be random loot drops after missions, and people would need to pay $2.50 for a drill to open them. Inside could be weapon skins that ranged from common to rare that not only changed the look of equipment, but improved its stats. Think of it as adding a pay-to-win element. Now, almost a week later, Overkill Software has decided to give people a chance to earn drills without spending money.

The $2.50 drills needed to open these Payday 2 safes can now appear as rewards after missions. People still haven’t worked out drill drop rates, as they seem to be random, but there is a chance of earning one after a mission. However, people can still buy a drill with real money, if they wish, or spend actual cash on the skins found within in the markets.

It’s a step in the right direction, but will it be enough to appease all those Payday 2 players reeling from Overkill’s broken promises? Only time (and official notes on drill drop rate data) will tell.
