Blizzard Doesn’t Want to Say How Many Play World of Warcraft Anymore

World of Warcraft keeps hitting milestones, though they aren’t exactly good ones. In May, the MMO went from 10 million subscribers to 7.1 million. Then in June, it went from 7.1 to 5.6 million. Unfortunately, that number hasn’t gone up with the last update, instead going down further to 5.5 million subscribers. So, Blizzard has decided to stop talking about how many people are playing the game.

Instead of talking about how many people are subscribing to World of Warcraft , Blizzard will discuss “engagement” metrics. The developer didn’t reveal what the difference is. It sounds more like it knows fewer people are playing and the numbers aren’t going up, so it’s choosing not to keep telling people since it’s bad publicity.

Blizzard is preparing the Legion expansion for World of Warcraft, and a movie based on the game will be released in 2016.
