Some may be surprised to learn, however, that Grand Theft Auto Online boasts 8 million active weekly users. Those numbers are gigantic for an online game, even topping the current figures for that ubiquitous MMO, World of Warcraft .
Grand Theft Auto Online is the online component packaged in with copies of Grand Theft Auto V. In the game, players earn money and experience which they can then use to purchase cars, weapons, and residences that they can host friends in. The game’s free roam mode also doubles as a lobby where players can launch heists and versus modes from.
If players want to take a short cut of sorts, they can exhange real life money for in-game currency. Rockstar brags that these figures have been very strong for them and the game continues to earn them money. Not surprising, considering that Grand Theft Auto V managed to ship over 45 million copies.
