Twitch Adds Two-Factor Authentication Option

Twitch Adds Two-Factor Authentication Option

Do you stream on Twitch? Even if you aren’t a legend, you might wonder if someone could be trying to get into your account. I mean, they could subscribe you to things, ruin your reputation, and who knows what else. Fortunately, an extra wall of security has gone up now that Twitch.tv offers two-factor authentication.

Two-factor authentication is that thing where a website will send you a text message or Authy notification whenever you log into your account. You’ll then need to enter the six digit verification code to actually log into Twitch. This means someone can’t get in, even if they hack your account, unless they also have access to your phone or Authy account.

If getting extra messages sounds annoying, you don’t have to opt into two-factor authentication. If you do want that extra protection, go to Settings, check Security, and choose to turn on Two-Factor Authentication. Twitch will then ask for your password and phone number. Provide both and you’ll get a verification code to confirm in your text message inbox or Authy.

Active Twitch users should consider the option. It might seem like extra work, but might actually end up helping you one day.
