Fallout 4’s Console Commands Can Be Dangerous

Fallout 4’s Console Commands Can Be Dangerous

Fallout 4 is a rather entertaining game on its own, but part of the allure of Bethesda games on PCs is the ability to tweak them to your liking. The modding community is strong and keeps titles relevant for years after their release. Fallout 4 mod support hasn’t really come through yet, so people been relying on console commands to make things happen. Bethesda’s Pete Hines, Vice President of PR and Marketing, says that’s not a good idea.

Hines specifically said on Twitter that, “Use of the console is not supported or recommended on PC.” His reasoning for the recommendation is that Fallout 4 console commands can ruin save games and hamper performance.

Naturally, this won’t dissuade the determined. Still, at least there’s a warning out there. If you’re going to experiment with Fallout 4 console commands, then make sure you back up your save files beforehand.
