Overkill Issues DLC Apology, but Won’t Change Course

Overkill Software has been on the receiving end of some serious criticism lately. Some might even call it overk… eh, never mind. You’ve probably seen the headlines, and we’ve covered the story here at CheatCC, so I won’t go into detail. The TLDR version is as follows: Payday 2 wasn’t supposed to have microtransactions; Overkill quietly implemented microtransactions, some of which enhance weapons. Players reacted angrily, but Overkill pretty much said, “We’re already making money, so the system stays.”

Fast forward to a couple of days ago, and it seems that things have only gotten worse. Surprisingly, Overkill’s audacity and stubborn defense of its decision didn’t come across as very charming to fans. They demanded an acknowledgement of wrongdoing, and demanded an apology. Overkill issued an official apology through the Steam forums that can now be read on its official website.

Basically, the microtransactions are here to stay, but Overkill wants to establish a more open line of communication with its fans. “…we haven’t been active in our own forums. We’ve been reading your feedback and clearing bugs, but we haven’t engaged you in discussions. This has alienated us somewhat, and for that we apologize. Starting next week, you will see the presence 8 different OVERKILL members cleaning threads, talking to you in discussions and taking an active role in the community.” Sounds to me like Overkill is trying to smooth rough water with a flatiron. You can read the full statement for yourself here .
