Monster Hunter X Outsells Monster Hunter 4 Within Days

Monster Hunter X Outsells Monster Hunter 4 Within Days

You’ve played Monster Hunter games, you like Monster Hunter games, you may even think you love Monster Hunter games, but you have nothing on Japan. In Japan, Monster Hunter is a much bigger deal than it is in the West, and the newly released Monster Hunter X (Cross) has already outsold the hugely popular Monster Hunter 4G (Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate in the West) in a matter of days. We don’t know the exact numbers for sure, because Nintendo doesn’t release them, but its eShop charts revealed an amazing fact.

In less than a week, Monster Hunter X surpassed 4G on Nintendo’s Japanese all-time best selling games eShop chart. This isn’t a comparison between the two games during the same launch period, or a scaled comparison showing which game sold faster; this is comparing the number of Monster Hunter X downloads since launch to the number of 4G downloads since its launch in October of 2014. This is unbelievable considering the tremendous success and continuing popularity of Monster Hunter 4G among Japanese gamers. I wouldn’t be surprised if this game continued to climb the charts to become one of the top 10 or even top 5 highest grossing 3DS games in Japan. Seeing as the last two Monster Hunter games found their way to the West, with 4 Ultimate enjoying great reviews, tons of free DLC, and lots of new fans, I suspect we’ll see news in the near future about Monster Hunter X coming stateside.
