Konami Hiring Devs for a new Metal Gear Game

Konami Hiring Devs for a new Metal Gear Game

So here’s a bit of uncomfortable news: Konami has posted on its Japanese site that it is looking for a “wide range of highly-skilled development professionals” to work on a new Metal Gear game. Actually on the site it’s referred to as New Metal Gear . We’re getting this news fresh off of Hideo Kojima’s recently announced partnership with PlayStation, and the exciting news that a mysterious, PlayStation 4 timed exclusive is in the works. While we’re certainly happy that Kojima Productions is up and running again, it does seem wrong to anticipate a new Metal Gear game from Konami knowing that things did not end well between the publisher and the man that made Metal Gear what it is.

Konami has expressed its confidence that Metal Gear can be great without Kojima, citing Metal Gear RIsing: Revengeance, a game made in collaboration with Platinum Games, as proof. While we have no doubt that Konami will be investing a lot of time and money in this next Metal Gear, if nothing else to prove a point, I doubt very much that the gaming community will receive it warmly due to the general sympathy and support that has poured out for Kojima after his leaving the company. Months from now I hope very much that we don’t have to see headlines about Kojima’s first big project on the PlayStation and Konami’s “ New Metal Gear ” competing with each other during a similar launch window. If that did happen, though, I don’t think Konami would stand a chance.
