There was quite a stir on the internet yesterday. We’ve known for a while that Mafia III will be released in 2016, but haven’t had an exact date. Then, both Best Buy and GameStop offered information that said the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC game would be out on April 26, 2016. But 2K Games says it doesn’t have a release date in mind yet.
A 2K Games statement given to IGN said Mafia III will be out in 2016, during fiscal year 2017. The Best Buy and GameStop dates were described as placeholders. Since then, the GameStop placeholder date has been changed to December 31, 2016.
Mafia III will be set in New Orleans during 1968. Players will follow Lincoln Clay, a biracial Vietnam veteran who founds his own mob. I get the feeling it’s a gamble that will pay off.
