Kickstarter Fails Due to Strippers and Booze – We Think

We’ve seen a lot of Kickstarters and indie games crash and burn, but none so spectacularly as Ant Simulator . A project from ETeeski LLC, which was being funded with money from pre-sales and the Ultimate GameDev Tutorials Kickstarter , is completely dead, allegedly due to Eric Tereshinski’s two partners spending the money that was supposed to go toward the game instead went toward more frivolous endeavors.

Tereshinski laid out the situation in a YouTube video, in which he also conveyed a message about hopefully getting refunds for people who pre-ordered. He discovered his two “friends” had spent the money for Ant Simulator on visiting strippers, getting drinks in bars, and treating themselves at restaurants. This was done without his knowledge. When he discovered the wrongs, he cancelled the game and left the company.

Since Tereshinski signed a LLC agreement when founding ETeeski LLC, it also means the Ultimate GameDev Tutorials videos and Ant Simulator videos will have to be taken down. At the moment, it’s still possible to play an Ant Simulator prototype online.

Here’s Tereshinski’s full message.

His partners, Tyler Monce and Devon Staley, have since responded to the allegations. They claim Tereshinski is the reason Ant Simulator failed and are planning to sue him. They say he’s the reason the game wasn’t going to be on the PlayStation 4 and that Tereshinski started backing out in November 2015.

As for the bars and restaurants, they claim, “anything that was spent in a bar or restaurant was very reasonable in nature when you look at any business, including game companies. It was part of our operating budget…” My question is, why would an indie developer need to be spending funds on entertainment? At that size and in that position, all money should be going to salaries and making the game.
