Nintendo Is Looking Into VR

Nintendo Is Looking Into VR

Dr. Serkan Toto, our friendly neighborhood gaming industry expert, has tweeted something very interesting. Toto attended Nintendo’s earnings briefing yesterday (early this morning) and was generously tweeting some of the juicy bits. The juiciest bit of them all? It seems that Nintendo “is looking at VR.” That was all of the information we got, and according to Toto, there were no additional details. This is intriguing, though, especially considering that multiple high-profile Nintendo representatives, notably Reggie Fils-Aime, have gone on record as saying that Nintendo has no interest in virtual reality; that the technology is isolating and not social.

I was worried that Nintendo would get left behind if it didn’t seriously take VR into consideration. I even wrote a dispatch about it, which you can read here . It’s very interesting to know that Nintendo has changed its tune, and is now considering how VR might impact the industry in the near future. My guess is that Nintendo is investigating the cost of developing hardware versus the opportunity cost of leaving VR to Microsoft and Sony. Perhaps Nintendo will assess the market throughout 2016 and learn from Sony and Microsoft’s mistakes before making an investment. That sounds like a very wise decision to me. I’ll be keeping my ear to the ground, so stay tuned to CheatCC for all the latest.
