Red Dead Redemption Was Temporarily Backwards Compatible

Microsoft has been gradually rolling out backwards compatible Xbox 360 games for Xbox One owners. Usually, there’s a big announcement when major titles appear, so it was odd that Red Dead Redemption suddenly appeared for the Xbox One without any fanfare. People who previously owned the Xbox 360 game were suddenly able to play it on their systems.

Now, we have an answer as to why that happened. Larry Hryb, aka Major Nelson, said that Red Dead Redemption showed up early due to an error. Xbox 360 games go through a testing period before they become backwards compatible on the Xbox One. It was temporarily available during this testing, but it isn’t anymore.

Take heart, though! If Red Dead Redemption is in testing, then that means it should get an official backwards compatible release soon!
