The PC Version of The Division Held Back by Consoles

The PC Version of The Division Held Back by Consoles

Team Epiphany went to a special preview event for The Division in New York City where they played through a bit of the PC version of the game – running at 1080p and 60 fps, of course. There was an Ubisoft representative taking questions and offering some insight throughout the duration of the playthrough, which I’ll embed at the bottom of this article. Toward the end of the experience part of the team asked the Ubi rep if they were held back as developers, unable to push the game to its limits because they had to develop for the consoles as well as PC.

While the representative responded by saying that the PC version of The Division had its own unique build, he did hint that the game was held back a bit by its console counterparts. “We do have to keep it in check with the consoles,” he said. “It would be unfair to push it so far away from them. But it’s been good having a dedicated PC build for this game. I’m really happy that we’re pushing the PC build as much as we are. There’s a lot more customized options than the console.” While I’m sure he was confident that he was ending on an optimistic note, it’s sure to bother many PC gamers that their version of The Division isn’t all that it could be.

Of course Ubisoft is working hard to put that sentiment to rest. “From the beginning, the PC version of The Division was developed from the ground up and we’re confident players will enjoy the game and the features this version has to offer,” Ubisoft said in a statement to PCGamesN (via PC Gamer ). The statement went on to say that “…the feedback from PC players who participated in the recent closed beta supports this.” I suppose you will have to be the judge come March 8.
