Nintendo’s Quality of Life Products Put on Hold

Nintendo’s Quality of Life Products Put on Hold

Tatsumi Kimishima’s recent briefing with investors has been translated and published, and while most of it is old news, Kimishima did address some new topics directly. One thing Nintendo has been relatively quiet about in recent months is the Quality of Life initiative that was announced back in January of 2014. The only device that was specifically detailed was a sleep and fatigue tracker which, according to the late Satoru Iwata, would “…measure such things as the movements of your body, breathing and heartbeat, all without physically touching your body.”

While interesting, it seems that these ideas have been put on hold for now. Kimishima said the following during the briefing: “We do not feel that we are currently at a stage where we can commercialize a product that deals with sleep and fatigue. So we are not planning to launch any products in this area in the fiscal year ending in March 2016. However, we do believe there is potential in the QOL sector, so we will continue to consider further development in this area.” Considering the new fiscal year starts in April that doesn’t sound like too severe of a setback, especially since Nintendo’s QOL products aren’t what we’ve been talking about lately. My mind is solely focused on the NX, on which Kimishima confirmed Nintendo was working very hard to reveal in the new (fiscal) year. E3, guys. That’s all I’m going to say.
