Campo Santo Apologizes to Fired-up Fans Over Firewatch Performance

Firewatch released for PS4 and PC with pretty decent fanfare. There was a large group of dedicated followers that had been waiting for this game for a long time, and it seems like most of those fans who ended up buying Firewatch on PS4 were really disappointed in the performance. The game stutters badly, and framerates are inconsistent and take big dives whenever the player moves the camera with the right thumbstick. While Firewatch still received pretty stellar review scores across the board, it’s the performance issues that have taken center-stage lately.

Campo Santo is aware of the issue, and apparently it’s more of a Unity problem than a Campo Santo problem. Sony could be partly to blame as well, since the PS4 dev kits don’t quite give a realistic idea of how a game will run on a consumer-bought PS4. “Unfortunately, it’s a process that requires all three parties to be involved unlike a typical bug that we can quickly fix on our own,” explained Sean Vanaman, the developer’s co-founder. He went on to say that “We’re super f***ing bummed that this is happening for some people and we’re working actually, literally, around-the-clock on it.” Hopefully a comprehensive patch is on the way and soon. I’m one of the people holding out until I get a report that things have been fixed up.
