Journey Live Combines Real-Time Gameplay With a Live Orchestra

My first time playing through Journey is something that I’ll never forget as long as I live. That probably sounds incredibly melodramatic to some of you, but it won’t come across as hyperbole to anyone who’s played through the game for themselves. It’s pure magic, and so much of the game’s charm comes across through Austin Wintory’s enchanting score, which adapts dynamically to actions taken by the player throughout the game. In fact, I remember telling my wife the night that I finished the game that it felt like I had my own live orchestra hidden away and watching me as I played. It’s an experience that everyone owes to themselves. Journey Live is about bringing that experience to a much wider audience.

Journey Live will unfold as a small group of players play through a special build of Journey with the music removed. A live orchestra will score the game live, recreating the feeling that players experience as they play for the first time. Chicago-based chamber music group Fifth House Ensemble has launched a Kickstarter campaign for Journey Live, which was funded almost immediately. Stretch goals, as they are met, will provide funding for the program to travel and perform around the country. At the time of writing this article, the Kickstarter campaign has raised over $42,000 – well over the original goal of $5,000. Get in there and donate for some cool loot.
