Nintendo Says to Expect Something New With Zelda Wii U

Kotaku has translated a recent Famitsu interview with the upcoming Legend of Zelda ‘s director, Eiji Aonuma, who had some pretty interesting things to say about the game. First of all, you’ll be relieved to know that production is coming along nicely, as Aonuma said it “has really taken shape.” This is encouraging, since Nintendo has maintained an aggravating silence about this highly anticipated game. For a while, we were doubting whether or not it would even make it out on the Wii U, with some suggesting that it would get carried over to the NX instead. Now, it seems likely that the game will appear on both consoles.

When it does, it’ll be a new experience; something different than we’re used to. Aonuma stated that he’d like to take another leap forward, equivalent to the jump that Link made from 2D games like A Link to the Past to the N64’s Ocarina of Time. “I think our secret sauce has always been Ocarina of Time. But this time, the change in flavor will be like going from Japanese food to Western-style food. Perhaps players will be surprised.” I have no idea what that’s supposed to mean, except that perhaps they’re creating a much more open-world, RPG-like adventure. That would certainly be a surprise, and we westerners love our open-world games. Stay linked to CheatCC for future updates.
