Wield a Lightsaber and Deflect Lasers in Virtual Reality

The Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR, and HTV Vive virtual reality headsets will all be making their debut this year. While I couldn’t be more excited for a new era of interactive entertainment, these three major platforms will be ushering in more than just new, immersive experiences; they’ll also be ushering in a new platform war. I hate the “console war” mentality, but it’s inevitable when you’re forced to choose among a few hardware options, all of which are expensive. You want to feel justified in your choice, and you want to feel like the hardware you’ve chosen is getting the best software and the best games.

Today we’re seeing an exciting new project in the works for the Vive, and for now it seems like it will remain exclusive to that platform. Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine isn’t a full game, but more of a demo or experience that lets you wield a lightsaber and deflect incoming blaster fire from Stormtroopers. Every Star Wars fan, since they first saw Luke train blindfolded with his lightsaber, has dreamed of holding one and deflecting lasers like a Jedi. ILMxLab and Valve are going to give you that chance, and if a partnership grows out of this it could mean that the Vive is the only option for Star Wars enthusiasts.
