Quantum Break Is Best-Selling New IP for Microsoft Studios

Quantum Break Is Best-Selling New IP for Microsoft Studios

I’m sensing a trend here. There’s a definite pattern that looks something like this: spend tens of millions producing, promoting, and marketing a new IP; finally release game; come back to report that everything paid off, the hype is real, and it’s the best-selling new IP in your company’s history (or ever). We saw this with Destiny, more recently with The Division , and now Microsoft wants to see if it can drum up some hype around Quantum Break , which is apparently the biggest selling new IP for the company this generation.

“We’re delighted that Quantum Break has been so well received by fans and critics,” says Jon Edney, Xbox Studios Senior Category Manager. “It’s a testament to the hard work, ambition and commitment of the team at Remedy that the game is already surpassing expectations.” Reviews have been generally favorable, that’s true, although the PC version apparently has more than its fair share of kinks. I was also a little amused by the headline, and was trying to think of Quantum Break ‘s competition. What other new IPs published by Microsoft have come out this generation? Ryse? Sunset Overdrive? I guess the bar was pretty low, comparatively, but I certainly don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade. Well done Remedy, and congrats to Microsoft.
