Rockstar’s Making Serious Bank with GTA Online

Rockstar’s Making Serious Bank with GTA Online

It’s official, GTA Online is a success. Not that there was ever a question. GTA V and its online component have received rave reviews since the base game launched in September 2013 and the online multiplayer in October 2013. It’s good. But it’s not only good for us, it’s good for Rockstar Games! The company has made at least $500 million in GTA Online microtransactions.

This detail came to light in paperwork Leslie Benzies, former President of Rockstar North, filed as part of a $150 million lawsuit against Rockstar and Take-Two for royalties. One line in the documents reads, “ GTA Online has generated at least $500,000,000 in revenue, based in part on a significant cash-generating tool contained in the game.” It also points out that the game’s microtransactions have a “nearly 100 percent profit margin.”

I guess this is why Rockstar Games keeps pumping out new GTA Online content. Once you’ve made over half a billion dollars on a game, you want to see how much more you can get out of it!
