The Tomb Raider games were rebooted. Naturally, this means the movies will be too. MGM and Warner Brothers are working on it, and Angelina Jolie’s successor has been named. The new Lara Croft is Alicia Vikander.
While not a household name just yet, Vikander has been in quite a few notable films so far. She played Kitty in Anna Karenina , Anke in The Fifth Estate , Gaby in The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and Gerda in The Danish Girl. However, you’ll probably best recognize her as Ava from Ex Machina. She’s also in the next Bourne movie.
Since the next Tomb Raider is still in pre-production , it hasn’t been dated yet. However, Graham King ( The Rum Diary, Argo, World War Z, and The 5th Wave ) is producing it and Roar Uthaug ( Cold Prey , Magic Silver , Escape , and The Wave ) is directing it.
Vikander looks like a good fit. She has experience with action movies, thanks to The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Bourne , but has done well in dramas too. Seems like she’ll work well as Lara.
