Overwatch Open Beta Begins This Week

Overwatch Open Beta Begins This Week

We’ve been watching a lucky, select few play Overwatch from afar, but now the time has come for us to get our eager little mitts on the game ourselves. The open beta begins this week, and you’ll be able to play a lot more than you might have expected. During the beta you’ll have access to all 21 heroes, a variety of practice modes, and 12 maps across 4 different multiplayer modes. That sounds more like a limited-time, full access demo than a beta to me.

If you pre-ordered Overwatch on or before April 29, then the open beta will go live for you tonight at 7 PM EST. For everyone else the beta will go live on May 4 at the same time, and will last until May 9, so you’ll still get plenty of time to play. On PC the beta client is only 6.5 GB, while on consoles you’ll need about 11 GB of space (not too bad). Note that an Xbox Live Gold subscription is necessary to partake in the beta on Xbox One, but a PlayStation Plus subscription isn’t required to play on PS4, though when the final game comes out on May 24 you will need PS Plus to play online.
