Mighty No. 9 Has Gone Gold, Releasing Next Month

Mighty No. 9 Has Gone Gold, Releasing Next Month

It took 3 years of delays, broken promises, and disappointed expectations, but Mighty No. 9 has finally gone gold. Keiji Inafune published an excited (albeit apologetic) update to fans and backers of the game – most of whom remain skeptical that the game is actually finished. “I would like to say again how sincerely sorry we are for how long we have kept all of our fans waiting,” he said in the update. “We have now confirmed the following release dates for Mighty No. 9: June 21st 2016 (North America & Asia) and June 24th 2016 (World Wide)… With the game having ‘gone gold’ we are in the last final stages of being able to deliver it into your hands… Therefore the release date we are announcing is set in stone and there will be no further delays for the game.”

It’s almost as though Inafune-san was anticipating the sh#t-storm of doubt and anger that would follow this otherwise happy announcement. I had to do quite a bit of scrolling before I could find any kind of positive reactions to the original tweet reporting the game had gone gold. When you scoop off the top-layer of comments you see the following: “Has it gone gold for another delay?” “Oh, you guys will delay it again at that date I presume.” “WTF is with Vita and 3DS delay?” “LOL YEAH SURE.”

I’m actually pretty excited to check it out. I hope they release a demo for me to try, because with Planet Robobot, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, and Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst all coming out next month my budget will be stretched to its limit. What about you guys? Are you excited the game has gone gold, or are you refusing to hold your breath?
