Activision CEO Answers to Infinite Warfare Trailer Hate

Activision CEO Answers to Infinite Warfare Trailer Hate

I’ve been rather shocked at the amount of hatred directed toward Infinite Warfare right after its reveal; hate from fans, and hate from various DICE employees (aka “the competition”). The reveal trailer has accrued almost half-a-million dislikes on YouTube, which is discouraging to say the least. During a recent investor call, Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg was asked specifically about the backlash, and didn’t seem at all fazed. “You gotta love the passion,” he said. “There aren’t many entertainment franchises that can generate the kind of passion that Call of Duty can, and that’s a good thing.”

I guess Hirshberg is of the mind that all publicity is good publicity. He has his reasons, though. He went on to point out that “the reveal trailer for Black Ops 2, which took the franchise into the future for the first time, had the most dislikes of any reveal trailer we had ever made at that time. And that went on to become our most successful game ever.” He’s got a point, and I have a feeling that the majority of hate leveled against Infinite Warfare is borne out of ignorance. I’m still seeing a lot of disappointment over the fact that Infinity Ward decided to go full sci-fi with lasers, which isn’t true at all. I’ll be glad once we get some gameplay footage so we can at least base our hype or hatred on the facts.
