Kojima Searching for an Engine to Drive Next Game

Kojima Searching for an Engine to Drive Next Game

Hideo Kojima knows how to combine work and play. If you’ve seen his recent pictures you’d think he was taking an extensive vacation; clearing his mind and traveling the world. This isn’t a dream vacation, though, this is business! Kojima has actually been doing some scouting, looking for the perfect engine to use in his next game (which will be a PS4 exclusive). His mission has taken him to several of the biggest studios in the world – first-party Sony studios as well as third-party studios – in search of a  replacement for the “Fox Engine,” which unfortunately was left behind with Konami.

I think all of us, Kojima included, wish that he could produce a new iteration of the Fox Engine to use in his next game, as it was designed from the ground up by Kojima Productions to be “the best engine in the world” and optimize development. He mentioned at the recent Nordic Game event in Malmo (via Gamespot ): “I think it’s better to use internal tools to make games, but for my first title we are going to use a third-party engine because we want to release it to the people who are waiting.” So unless you really want to wait 5 years for a reveal trailer for a game coming out in 2023, this is probably the best call. So who will it be? CryEngine? Frostbite? Unreal 4? As soon as we find out, you’ll be the first to know.
