Ron Gilbert Wants Manic Mansion, Monkey Island Back

Ron Gilbert Wants Manic Mansion, Monkey Island Back

Imagine how it must feel for a creator to know he isn’t in control of his creations. It’s got to hurt. Now, think about Ron Gilbert right now. He created Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island , but doesn’t own them. Disney has the rights to the games. Now that Disney’s out of the video game… game, Gilbert wants them back.

Gilbert brought this up on Twitter last night. He said, “Dear @Disney , now that you’re not making games, please sell me my Monkey Island and Mansion Mansion IP. I’ll pay real actual money for them.” He’s the second developer to ask for his intellectual properties back, as Warren Spector asked for the Junction Point IP back in a tweet too.

In the meantime, it is actually possible to play Maniac Mansion on a modern console or computer. Go pick up Day of the Tentacle Remastered . The game’s hidden inside of it, so you can still enjoy one of the best adventure games ever.
