Rocket League Gets Xbox One / PC Cross-Platform Multiplayer

Rocket League Gets Xbox One / PC Cross-Platform Multiplayer

Well, Microsoft is a little late to the party, but here we are. Today Rocket League becomes the first Xbox One game to allow cross-platform multiplayer with PC players. This is a big step forward for Microsoft, which is still pushing its Universal Windows Platform in a big way. The dream is for Windows 10 and Xbox One to be more united in their respective libraries and player-base, and the smash hit that is Rocket League should go a long way in proving that the console and PC communities can hold hands and play well together.

Now I say that Microsoft is a little late to the party but really, it’s pretty freaking late. Rocket League has boasted cross-platform multiplayer between PS4 and PC since the day it launched as a free PlayStation Plus title last July. So far throughout 2016 Phil Spencer has been putting out some very vocal and public feelers to see if Sony would be open to cross-platform multiplayer between the two consoles, but nothing come of it. If any game can make that happen, it’s Rocket League , which has almost bridged the gap; it’s on both consoles and PC, and both consoles can play with PC players, but not with each other. Hopefully I’ll get to write that headline sometime soon. Until then, I’ll see you on the pitch.
