Sony Has Now Sold Over 40 Million PS4s

Sony has revealed that, as of May 22, it has officially sold over 40 million PS4 consoles. That’s huge, and PS4 remains Sony’s fastest-selling console in history. It still has a long way to go if it’s going to catch up with the PS2, which sold over 155 million units. With the PS4 Neo on the horizon, and new consoles from Nintendo and Microsoft, I doubt it’ll reach those heights.

SIE president Andrew House attributes the console’s success to its broad range of exciting and exclusive software. “We will strive to deliver even more exciting gaming experiences to our users, further driving the momentum and accelerating the expansion of the PS4 platform and its business this fiscal year by offering an unparalleled line-up of games, bringing our virtual reality system, PlayStation VR, to market and providing ground-breaking features and network services,” he said in a press release (via Polygon ). We expect Sony to drum up some serious hype next month at E3, hopefully by showing off some new footage for Horizon: Zero Dawn, The Last Guardian, the Final Fantasy VII remake, as well as various PS VR titles. Stay tuned: the hype train is just now gaining steam!
