Payday 3 Confirmed, Payday 2 Microtransactions Are Out

Payday fans have a lot to celebrate today. In a press release, Swedish company Starbreeze Studios announced that it has purchased the full rights to the Payday franchise from former publisher 505 Games. In a video update commemorating Payday 2 ‘s 100th update, Overkill producer Almir Listo states that “…going forward it’s only us and you guys who decide what’s going in to Payday. ” That means some changes are on the way, chief among them the elimination of microtransactions. That’s right: from now on, all safe drops will be free to open.

But that’s not all. The agreement between Starbreeze and 505 also dictates that 505 will get 33% of the net revenue generated by Payday 3 , capped at $40 million, after Starbreeze has recouped development and marketing costs. It was also confirmed that Overkill would continue to support Payday 2 until the end of 2017, so fans still have plenty of content to look forward to.
