In-Game Ads Now Banned in Minecraft

In-game Minecraft advertising is about to become extinct. Mojang issued an edict that companies can’t build or hire someone to build advertisments in the game. That means mods and servers trying to sell you something are out.

Which is actually a big deal. Have you ever googled “ Minecraft ads” before? I hadn’t. When I did, I found multiple companies, like AdBolt and Adventurize, make a business out of putting together ads for companies in the game. While people can still monetize servers with video ads, companies can’t recreate products or locations in game or use Minecraft footage in their commercials.

Of course, if someone wants to build these things for fun, that’s fine. Mojang’s targeting people doing this for profit. The developer doesn’t want people trying to hook people who are enjoying their game with odd kinds of ads. This means your own Minecraft experience should remain unchanged, but exploring other servers should be much more ad-free.
