Zelda Trademark Listing May Suggest Cartridges for the NX

Zelda Trademark Listing May Suggest Cartridges for the NX

I’ve sorted through so many NX rumors over the past few months, and I expect that I’ll see many more before Nintendo officially reveals its new console, which could happen this September at the Tokyo Game Show (rumor). One of the most persistent rumors, right up there with this being a hybrid console, is that it will use cartridge-based media. Carts for the NX sounds like a good idea to me. Flash memory is affordable and expansive, and loading times would be a non-issue. Plus, if the NX does have a handheld component, carts would make sense as an interchangeable media solution.

A new trademark filing for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is adding another layer of plausibility to the cartridge rumor. In filings for Wii U games, in the goods and services categories, only game discs are mentioned. For Breath of the Wild , however, “video game cartridges, video game discs, and video game memory cards” are all listed. Some are speculating that since BotW will be coming out on the Wii U and the NX, that this could be evidence that the NX will indeed use cartridges. What do you guys think?
