Original God of War Team Is Recreating the Series

I think it’s pretty safe to say that God of War made the biggest waves at E3 this year. I can’t think of any other trailer or gameplay video that got the crowd as riled up as this one. This is a completely new, reimagined God of War with a completely new and reimagined Kratos. While that’s really exciting to me, several long-time God of War fans are worried that trying to take the series in a new direction may destroy what made it so great in the first place. For those harboring such concerns, it may comfort you to know that most of the Santa Monica team that worked on the original God of War games on PS2 are working on the new one.

In an interview with The Know (via WCCF Tech ), creative director Cory Barlog revealed several exciting details about God of War . Players will be visiting the nine realms of Norse mythology and dealing with huge waves of enemies at certain points; Barlog mentioned up to 100 enemies on-screen. He also hinted that some of the more controversial mini-games from previous titles wouldn’t make an appearance in the new God of War , so in other words, you won’t be having sex with topless goddesses (which I thought was pretty tacky anyway). The game will feature more obvious changes as well. Those of you who watched the E3 demo can tell that the behind-the-shoulder camera system is completely new, and we’re noticing some light RPG elements as well with skill points.
