Team Fortress 2 is a nine-year-old game. You wouldn’t think much more could be added to it. Except now, something new is coming. The game is getting a competitive, ranked mode. Did you know it didn’t have one yet? I didn’t! It’s coming in a Meet Your Match update that involves 6v6 matches that let you earn points and rise through the ranks for your participation and victory.
The competitive scene in Team Fortress 2 isn’t playing around. In order to participate, you have to attach your phone number to your account or pay $9.99 for a Competitive Access Pass (normally, Team Fortress 2 is free). Wins and losses affect your rank, and people who abandon a game will be penalized.
Don’t worry. Competitive play isn’t the only new feature for Team Fortress 2 . The unranked games for more casual players will have a new matchmaking system. Previously, you could be dumped into any game. Now, you’ll be put into matches with people who are at the same skill level as you.
All of this is incredibly exciting news! Considering Team Fortress 2’ s age, you don’t expect new things to come to it. But here we are.
