Square Enix and Dontnod Entertainment announced today that the first episode of their critically acclaimed, episode narrative Life is Strange will be free to download starting tomorrow, July 21. This isn’t a limited time run; Episode 1: Chrysalis will be free going forward on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Mac, and PC. “Although our team set out to create an award-winning narrative we still cannot believe the response we’ve had from players of Life is Strange ,” Dontnod CEO Oskar Guilbert said in a press release. “We’re really glad that Square Enix have decided to give the first episode away for free so more players can begin their journey and see why people have fallen in love with the game for themselves.”
Life is Strange has accrued over 75 Game of the Year awards and nominations, winning the BAFTA for Best Story, the Peadbody Award, the Golden Joystick’s Performance of the Year, and The Game Awards’ Games for Impact Award. Anecdotally, a close friend and colleague of mine just picked up Life is Strange at the beginning of the year and absolutely loved it. He swears that by the third episode you’ll be blown away and totally driven to see how the story concludes. Square Enix sucked him in, and it want to suck you in, too.
