Detective Pikachu’s Heading to the Big Screen

Detective Pikachu’s Heading to the Big Screen

Detective Pikachu is on the case! Everywhere! It turns out Great Detective Pikachu will go from 3DS game to movie. Legendary Entertainment has the rights, and Universal Pictures and Toho will handle distribution. Production on the live action movie will begin next year.

The Detective Pikachu movie is based on Great Detective Pikachu: Birth of a New Duo , the Japan-exclusive adventure game. Players are introduced to an unconventional Pikachu who’s uncommonly intelligent, though not technically strong. He meets Tim Goodman, a young man who can understand what he’s saying. Together, the two become a detective duo that solves cases around the city. The movie will follow the character.

All that’s left is to wonder if Danny DeVito will be tapped to play Detective Pikachu. After the 3DS game was released in Japan, a petition that now has over 50,000 signatures was circulated to perhaps get him to be the voice of Pikachu in an English-language version. Who knows how that would go, though, since DeVito has said he had no idea what Pokemon is . Given that this particular Pikachu is quite a curmudgeon, he would be the perfect man to voice this little guy.
