Man Indicted for Online Threats Against Blizzard

Yesterday, a federal grand jury indicted Stephen Cebula of Sacremento, CA on charges of making threats to injure employees of Blizzard Entertainment. On June 2 and 3 of this year, Cebula “transmitted messages over the internet” to Blizzard that involved threats of grevious bodily harm.

In one such message, Cebula stated that he, “may or may not pay [Blizzard] a visit with an AK47 amongst some other ‘fun’ tools.” Police arrested Cebula on July 12 and his first court appearance will be July 26.

His arrest was actually the product of an FBI investigation into the threats, and this entire thing seems unusually speedy. Whatever the reason, I’m glad to see law enforcement start to take online threats seriously. If convicted, Cebula faces a maximum of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
