Ah, Sonic fans, some of the most loyal and regularly disappointed people on the planet. Today at Comic-Con this stalwart bunch recieved what appears to be actual good news. Sega and several partner developers are creating a nostalgic 2D game called Sonic Mania .
Sonic Mania purposefully hearkens back to the Sega Genesis days, with a polished-up but still retro 2D look and plenty of levels that resemble the old games, but with new twists. Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles will be playable, with new abilities that they can use to explore levels both old and new.
Our prickly blue friend is scheduled to appear in 2D sometime next year on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Maybe, if Sonic Mania is good enough, we can all forget that Sonic Boom ever happened.
