Team Marie Victorious in Final Splatfest

Team Marie Victorious in Final Splatfest

The final Splatfest has come to an end, and I’m not sure what that means for Splatoon . Since last May, Splatoon has proven to be one of the most successful new IP launches for Nintendo, and the game has had constant (and free) updates and DLC providing players with new weapons, gear, ability combinations, and events. Originally Nintendo claimed that live support for Splatoon would conclude in January, but the updates kept on rolling. This last Splatfest would seem like a logical stopping point for updates, but we haven’t heard anything official from Nintendo.

As far the Splatfest itself, it was the ultimate showdown between the two Squid Sisters Callie and Marie – whose names, I just now realized, are a pun on Calamari. It was a long and brutal weekend. You thought cats vs. dogs was bad? This is the rivalry above all other rivalries, and this Splatfest was the showdown to end all showdowns. I claimed my allegiance to Team Marie and threw down on what turned out to be the most frustrating Splatfest for me personally, filled as it was with blowout defeats and consistent disconnects. In the end, though, Team Marie proved victorious. In popularity and win percentages we pulled ahead with 54% and 51%, respectively. It was a close fight, which is only fitting. Our condolences to Team Callie.
