Homebrew on the Vita Has Finally Arrived!

Homebrew on the Vita Has Finally Arrived!

The PSP was the ultimate homebrew device. I remember so many late nights lying in bed in my dorm room, playing Super Mario Bros. 3 on my sleek, portable emulator and loving my life. Ever since the PS Vita came out we’ve been waiting for someone, anyone, to develop a comprehensive homebrew suite. If someone could only harness the full processing and graphical capabilities of the Vita, maybe we could have stable N64 and Dreamcast emulation on the go; and the Vita has native support for PSP and PS1 games! I’m happy to announce that that day has come.

HENkaku is the first ever homebrew enabler for PS Vita and PSTV. It’s brand new, so it will take some time for developers to brew up some innovative software, but the flood gates have finally been opened. HENkaku requires that your Vita is updated to firmware 3.60, and you may want to toggle off automatic firmware updates to ensure future compatibility. Other than that, if you have at least 10MB of free space on your memory card you should be good to go. Of course, running unauthorized software on your Vita can be risky, and it’s obviously illegal to download and play any games that you don’t actually own. For a detailed tutorial on how to get HENkaku running on your Vita you can check out the official page here .
