Forgotten Gem, Little King’s Story, Coming to PC

One of my very favorite Wii games is a third-party title that many people haven’t heard of, Little King’s Story . This Pikmin -esque title stars a little boy who enters a magical kingdom and becomes its supreme overlord. Goaded on by his warlike advisors, he becomes determined to conquer the world and (in innocent little-boy fashion) marry all of its princesses. I’ve always felt like it would be even better suited to a mouse-driven control scheme than the Wiimote, and now we’ll get to see if I’m right. Little King’s Story has been remastered in HD and will be arriving on PC August 5.

Your little king, Corobo, will spend his time recruiting and training an army of small villagers, which he then leads around the world to destroy monsters, obstacles, and amusingly creative bosses in his path. He does this by flinging the appropriate villagers at the object in question, which could get a bit unwieldly on the Wii. I’m very much hoping that the controls in the PC version will be easier and more responsive to use.

Don’t be fooled by the storybook style – Little King’s Story is a wicked little sociopolitical satire. Grown-ups will get a great deal more out of it than kids, especially as you dig deeper into the game and meet more of your rival leaders. It’s entertaining, wacky, and worth exploring. As long as the port turns out well, I highly recommend it.

The following trailer doesn’t do a good job (like, at all) of showing off Little King’s Story ‘s charms, but I’ll present it anyway for your perusal.
