Sega Considering Past Yakuza Games for PS4

Sega Considering Past Yakuza Games for PS4

Lucky PS3 owners will get the chance to check out Yakuza 5 this month, as it’s part of the PlayStation Plus free games lineup. The Yakuza franchise is a long-running fan favorite. It’s a weird mix of Shenmue and Grand Theft Auto , with its own unique sense of humor and charm. If, like me, you only own a PS4, you’ll have to wait until Yakuza 0 comes out in North America in January to see what all the fuss is about. You’re going to get hooked, and you’re going to want more Yakuza on PS4. It sounds Sega might be interested in making those dreams come true.

During a livestream last week, Yakuza producer Toshihiro Nagoshi mentioned that he was very pleased with the success of Yakuza: Kiwami in Japan. Kiwami is a complete remake of the original Yakuza that came out on PS2, and it sold about half a million copies in Japan and Asia. The demand for past Yakuza games on PS4 has prompted Sega to consider various ways to bring Yakuza 2, 3, 4, and 5 to PS4 as well. Nagoshi didn’t confirm anything during the stream, so we can’t get our hopes up yet. Even if Sega decides to make it happen, the Yakuza franchise isn’t nearly as popular in the West as it is in the East, so we’d likely be begging and waiting for the remakes in the U.S. Still, we can dream.
