Battlefield 1’s Weather Conditions Affect Gameplay

Battlefield 1’s Weather Conditions Affect Gameplay

DICE is putting a lot of work into Battlefield 1 , and one of the areas getting the most care is the weather. Various outdoor conditions are going to have a huge effect on battles in the game. Why? Because people dealt with those things differently in World War I. This means weather isn’t going to be a cosmetic change in Battlefield 1 , but will actually alter gameplay.

Minor weather systems aren’t too big of a deal in Battlefield 1 . Cloudy and sunny days are no big deal. Rainy and foggy days are, as rain distorts your vision, both in air and on the ground, and fog decreases your field of vision. If you’re in a plane, you may be able to climb above the fog, but then not be able to see who is hiding in or below it.

There will even be extreme weather. The example provided by DICE was a sandstorm. When one pops up in Battlefield 1 , your vision will be limited in the same way as it is by fog. It’ll also make it difficult for planes to stay in the air.

The care being put into Battlefield 1 really is extraordinary. Especially with transitory weather patterns. We see these sorts of things in games, but they usually don’t change the way they’re played. They just add extra flavor. It’s great to see DICE going above and beyond here.
