Three-Year Dev Cycle Was Good for CoD: Infinite Warfare

Infinite Warfare is shaping up to be one of the biggest launches of the year – not just big in the sense that it’s going to sell well, but because it’s essentially three complete game modes crammed into one. Infinite Warfare brings so much together into one package: a brand new campaign featuring dogfights in space and zero-g mobility, the first zombies mode ever in an Infinity Ward game, and a full remaster of the mot beloved Call of Duty game of all time. Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg stated in an interview with Venturebeat that this was all made possible by the three-year dev cycle given to Infinity Ward, and also to Treyarch and Sledgehammer.

“But certainly we never would have been able to offer this in the same collector’s edition SKU alongside Modern Warfare Remastered if we didn’t have that extra time to get this stuff right,” he said. “Especially something like Modern Warfare Remastered. You can’t do that lightly. It’s one of those games that’s sort of carved into Mount Rushmore. We have to sweat every pixel, and that’s what the team has done.” It really makes you re-think the pros and cons of shorter vs. longer development cycles. Maybe the next Assassin’s Creed will blow us all away, hm?
